Welcome to the Living Notables Project, a careful and respectful effort to maintain accurate, privacy-conscious profiles for notable individuals who are still living — and to support appropriate collaboration that helps connect them and their families to the Big Tree.

Living Notables Defined
Not all notable individuals who are living qualify as Living Notables.
"Living Notable" is an official WikiTree designation for a profile of a highly-visible public figure for whom WikiTree makes an exception to our standard privacy rules requiring profiles of living people to remain unlisted unless they are managed by the person themself.
To be designated a Living Notable, an individuals must:
- be at least 18-years-old
- have a Wikipedia profile written in at least three different languages.
- have at least one nuclear family member (parent, sibling, spouse, or child) referenced by name on Wikipedia, in at least two languages.
Additionally, WikiTree must not be aware that the notable person would prefer to keep their information private.
- Beyond this basic eligibility there must be a WikiTree Project that is willing and able to manage it according to the rules described on this page and other WikiTree rules and policies.
How to Establish a Living Notable Profile Individual members are not permitted to independently manage the profile of a Living Notable. All Living Notables must be managed by Full-status regional or topical WikiTree Project and must be a Project Protected Profile (PPP). Be aware that many living notables do not have Living Notable Profiles because of the strictness of the policy described here.
Profile Management
Any Full-status Project regional or topical WikiTree Project can manage Living Notables. The Living Notables Project encourages being added as a co-manager of all Living Notables managed by other projects, as it assists the project in maintaining a master log of all Living Notables. Having the Notables Project's Project Box or Notability template also allows the notable's CC7 and connection status to be seen at the top of the profile. The Living Notables Project will independently manage any Living Notable not managed by another project.
The Living Notables Project does not permit individual members to manage or comanage the profiles of Living Notables. Nor will we place individual members on the Trusted Lists of Living Notables. Other projects may have different guidelines as to who they do and do not permit to manage their Living Notable profiles. The Living Notables Project will manage any Living Notable not managed by another project.
Living Family Members of Notables
Generally speaking, you should not create a profile of a living family member of a notable unless they themselves meet the eligibility requirements for notability. Occasionally, the Living Notables Project may authorize the creation of a profile for a Living Notable's living family member if that profile is necessary to connect the Living Notable to the Big Tree. These profiles will remain Unlisted and will be managed by the project.
Privacy Settings
Living Notable Profiles should be set as Private with a Public Family Tree and Biography (Yellow Privacy). As living people, they cannot be set as Public or Open. All Living Notable Profiles must have PPP (Provacy Protection) .
Personal Content in Biographies
Due to software limitations, multiple data fields are not displayed on the profile of a Living Person. always private on profiles of living people. Names will be displayed as first and last name only. Birth dates will appear as decades only, and no places will be listed. Names of deceased parents, siblings, and children will appear. Naaes of spouses will not appear, even if the spouse is independently Notable.
This information may be revealed in the biography of a Living Notable Profile or elsewhere as long as it does not otherwise violate WikiTree policies.
Content on the Living Notable Profile should not include anything that we might reasonably expect the person themselves or their close family members to not want to appear on WikiTree. Controversial information is almost never appropriate. If there is any question about whether or not a person would want certain information about themselves on WikiTree it should be removed. Although we make an exception to Discussion Rule #3 ("Don't Discuss Anyone's Personal Information") for Living Notables, any content that we can reasonably expect the person themselves would not want to see on WikiTree should be removed. These guidelines apply to all content about the person, including comments posted on the profile or in connected G2G posts.
